Mayor Arthur Vigeant submitted his fiscal 2014 capital bond request to the City Council?on Monday, a nearly $13 million package that would pay for street repairs, vehicles and new equipment for city departments.?
The council did not discuss the package?on Monday?and voted to send it to the Finance Committee for consideration.?

More than half of the $12.9 million package - about $7.5 million - would go toward paying for street maintenance and construction projects. The most expensive road improvement project listed is a $3.4 million reconstruction project on Simarano Drive. Other work would be done on Bolton Street, Brimsmead Street, Church Street, Girard Street, Greenwood Street, Howland Street, Richard Road, Tremont Street and Houde Street.?

Equipment requests included a new bombardier, paving machine, front-end loader and fire engine, as well as cars and trucks for the Department of Public Works, police department and facilities department. The request also includes $45,000 for "less lethal" equipment for the police department, including tasers and "less lethal shotguns."

Also included are bond requests for water and sewer projects, environmental site upgrades, cemetery and field projects and computers for various departments.
