Imagine you're nominated for an Oscar and are there at the big show, nervous as can be. Praying you'll hear your name and then ... not you. Somebody else.
Could you hide your disappointment? Could you look thrilled, like you really, really like Sally Field and wanted her to win the whole time??Are you a good enough actor that?you can put the?"it's an honor to be nominated" look on your face, even at this moment of loss?
Not everyone can. Check out this great video gallery showing all dozens of past nominees at the time their award is called.
We'll save you some hardcore hunting and tell you Jessica Lange (middle of the page) looks?awfully unhappy?when Sally Field does in fact win in 1984. (Field won for "Places in the Heart" while Lange was nominated for "Country.")
Also, Sally Kirkland (first row) makes a very odd face before pasting on a smile, but let's assume she was checking her teeth for lipstick or something. (Cher won for "Moonstruck" in 1987, Kirkland was up for "Anna.")
And Meryl Streep is indeed the actress everyone says she is -- in addition to her literally leaping out of her chair with delight for Cher in 1987, she never looks angry the many (many) times she had to sit there and let someone else take home the golden trophy.
How do you think you'd react if you lost an Oscar? Tell us on Facebook.
